XRHealth, a company that offers healthcare tools leveraging virtual and augmented reality, has acquired the virtual mental health platform Innerworld to expand its immersive therapeutic care portfolio.

The medical extended reality (XR) company offers experiences focused on the physical and cognitive domains, including immersive environments designed to reduce pain perception during medical procedures and facilitate occupational and physical rehabilitation.

It also offers treatment environments to assist with behavioral therapy, such as PTSD, stress, addiction and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Innerworld offers an immersive, community-based mental health platform, powered by its proprietary Cognitive Behavioral Immersion approach.

The company offers over 100 weekly events, 24/7 access to trained mental health facilitators, guide-led groups, private groups led by trained guides and in-app journaling.

Innerworld's offerings, which the company said include a community of more than 120,000 users globally, will be integrated into XRHealth's platform.

XRHealth said the acquisition enables it to offer a comprehensive stepped care model that includes group therapy and peer support across its ecosystem.

Innerworld's founder and clinical psychologist, Dr. Noah Robinson, will join XRHealth as its chief clinical officer.

"Bringing Innerworld into XRHealth allows us to dramatically expand access to immersive mental health therapeutic intervention. Innerworld has built a powerful community model, and we're excited to combine that strength with XRHealth's clinical innovation to deliver meaningful care at scale," Eran Orr, founder and CEO of XRHealth, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

In February, XRHealth acquired virtual reality digital therapeutics company RealizedCare, which combined digital therapeutics with wraparound virtual services to supply value-based chronic care management.

RealizedCare, formed in 2023 through the merger of virtual reality behavioral health platform BehaVR and virtual chronic care management company Fern Health, was a digital care management platform for chronic pain.

XRHealth integrated RealizedCare's offerings, adding scientifically proven methods to its portfolio that help manage chronic pain and behavioral health conditions. It also introduced RealizedCare's triage tool aimed at optimizing personalized patient care.

Last year, XRHealth acquired VR-enabled cognitive training platform NeuroReality. The acquisition included all of NeuroReality's assets, including its flagship rehabilitation product, Koji's Quest.

The Boston company also announced it was integrating AI into its technology to allow clinicians to transition between various therapeutic settings.

In 2023, XRHealth acquired Amelia Virtual Care, a VR platform for mental health professionals. Amelia allowed providers to connect directly with patients via its platform, but since the acquisition, the offering has been pulled from the direct-to-provider space.

In 2024, XRHealth secured $6 million in funding, led by Asabys Partners, with participation from NOVA Prime Fund and the company's current investors.

The company secured $10 million in funding in 2022 to expand VR-focused healthcare treatment in the metaverse.

Two years before, XRHealth raised $7 million in funding and a $450,000 grant from the Israeli Innovation Authority.
