Welldoc, which offers an app for individuals with cardiometabolic issues, is partnering with secure identity company CLEAR to integrate identity verification into its platform.

Maryland-based Welldoc offers an AI-enabled digital coaching app for individuals with diabetes, hypertension and heart failure to help with disease management. It also offers services to support weight management, prediabetes, mental wellness and sleep, including providing data insights into the various diseases for care teams.

The company has also received numerous FDA clearances for its insulin dose calculator offering, BlueStar.

CLEAR offers an identity verification platform, often used in airport security, including TSA Pre-Check, and in arenas. The company uses biometric ID checks, such as a scan of one's face, to verify identity.

CLEAR1, the company's secure identity platform, will be integrated into Welldoc's app for identity verification, which the company says will allow individuals to "access their health networks and connect their medical records and health data directly into the Welldoc App."

Welldoc said the integration will enable it to add an identity layer to authenticate and aggregate fragmented health data from multiple sources, powering the company's AI insights engine.

The companies tout that the collaboration advances CMS Health Technology Ecosystem goals, an initiative launched by the White House earlier this year to form a more connected health data ecosystem.

CLEAR will be integrated into Welldoc's app in the first quarter of 2026.

"True patient-centered care requires both trust and accessibility," Kevin McRaith, CEO and president of Welldoc, said in a statement.

"As we work with CMS to build the next generation of AI-powered health tech innovations for chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes, a secure and frictionless identity layer is essential. Our partnership with CLEAR ensures that the personalized, evidence-based solutions we deliver are accessed confidently and responsibly."

THE LARGER TREND

Earlier this year, Epic announced it would integrate CLEAR into its MyChart patient portal. The company said that once the offering is live, hospitals and health systems will have an embedded identity verification tool to ease patient account creation and recovery.

Last year, one of Indiana's largest health systems, Community Health Network, partnered with CLEAR to streamline password reset processes and improve identity verification of its staff and patients across its network.

Community Health replaced multi-factor authentication with CLEAR Verified, which verifies the individual.

CLEAR also announced last year that it would bring check-in kiosks to Georgia-based Wellstar Health System before making its technology available within Epic's EHR.

Prior to an appointment, a patient would receive a text or email asking if they would like to check in for their appointment using CLEAR. At the time of their appointment, the patient would scan their face at a CLEAR kiosk to complete check-in.

In 2023, health management platform b.well Connected Health also partnered with CLEAR to utilize their identity verification services.
